CERTIFICATE II IN SECURITY (OPERATIONS) FLEXIBLE AND OPEN LEARNING

A provisional Crowd Controllers licence can now be issued to Candidates, endorsed to one employer only, for a period of three months, providing the Candidate has successfully completed five units of the elevenunits that make up the Certificate II in Security (Operations) qualification. These five units are:

  1. PRSS0202A - Maintain workplace safety
  2. PRSS0203A - Work effectively in Secutity Industry
  3. PRSS2060A - Provide First Aid
  4. PRSS0210A - Control access to & exit from premises
  5. PRSS0211A - Monitor & control individual & crowd behaviour

Source: Commercial Agents Branch - WA Police Service

Flexible and Open-learning allows you to work through the above five units, at your own pace and in your own environment. If you successfully complete these five units a provisional certificate can be provided which will allow you to work as a crowd controller. However, if you have already been licenced by Commercial Agents Branch previously and you have not yet done any accredited training course then you will be required to complete all 11 units before Commercial Agents Branch will provide you with a licence.

Once you have completed the five units and have been issued with a Crowd Controller’s licence you can work for one crowd control agent, for a period of 3 months. After the three months has elapsed the provisional licence expires. However during that 3 month period you would be expected to complete the remaining units for your unconditional qualification.

This method of obtaining your licence also allows for on-the-job assessment and importantly the flexibility to complete the qualification at your own pace and in your own environment.

Although Paragon’s flexible and open learning program allows you the freedom to tackle the qualification with an element of flexibility, you will require some interview sessions with your Trainer to discuss assessments and for further testing of underpinning knowledge by way of written theory tests, role-plays and discussion (question and answer).

The tests are not designed to be difficult, however they are designed to test whether you have read your student guides with a view to demonstrating underpinning knowledge about the specific unit.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Have you previously worked in the security industry or have you completed other training courses or have you special experience in customer service? You may be able to seek RPL against some, or all of the units of competency for a recognised qualification.

RPL recognises the skills, knowledge and attributes you have acquired during your working life.

Skills, knowledge and attitudes gained in one context can be transferred to other contexts and customised to meet the demands of different situations.

A Skills Recognition Kit is provided for each Candidate who wishes to seek recognition of skills against the performance criteria. The Skills Recognition Kit has been designed to assist you with gathering evidence as to how you may demonstrate the competencies and on-the-job skills set out in the qualification.

A Candidate can seek RPL for part units where appropriate evidence is provided.

A Candidate can collect evidence from a variety of sources in order to demonstrate their competence against the performance criteria.

Evidence refers to the various methods of demonstrating the required skills or competencies, these may include:

  • Qualifications
