Description

CPPSEC3114 is a unit that will be required for work within the armed cash-in transit industry as well as for the carry of firearms within other agencies in Australia

CPPSEC3115 Control, operate and maintain revolvers for security purposes & CPPSEC3116 Carry, operate and maintain semi-automatic pistols for security purposes

 

Both these units specify the skills and knowledge required to safely and legally carry, operate and maintain revolvers & semi-automatic pistols for security purposes.

It includes:

  • reviewing and complying with range rules and procedures, workplace policies and legal rights and responsibilities including firearms and weapons Acts and workplace health and safety (WHS)
  • selecting and checking the weapon, ammunition, duty gear and required personal protective equipment (PPE), and following manufacturers’ specifications to ensure correct and safe operation
  • operating a firearm (revolver/semi-automatic pistol) demonstrating correct techniques for loading and unloading, draw and recovery, retention, shooting and discharging multiple shots at the same target and multiple targets to the required standard of accuracy
  • discharging a revolver at an approved range following local range rules and instructions from range personnel
  • cleaning and maintaining firearm following point, remove, observe, verify and examine (PROVE) safety procedures.

It applies to people working independently or under limited supervision as members of a security team.

This unit may form part of the licensing requirements for people engaged in security operations in those states and territories where these are regulated activities.

Description of Unit

This unit of competency specifies the outcomes required to determine when to use a firearm to respond to a life-threatening situation. It requires the ability to analyse risk factors and intentions of persons and to maintain and store firearms and ammunition in accordance with legislative requirements.

This unit will form part of the licensing and legal requirements for the use of firearms by persons working in the security industry in states and territories where these are regulated activities.

Elements and Performance Criteria

1 Maintain firearm safety.

2 Draw firearm.

3 Discharge firearm.

4 Evaluate firearm use.

Pre-requisites:

All participants must have a current WA security licence.

Course Outline:

Paragon’s firearm’s training course runs for 3 days (typically in the 1 week). The training has a well-balanced approach to learning to use firearms. The course caters for people who have never held a firearm before to experienced officers looking at refresher training.

Key components of the training include required demonstration of KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS in a workplace context.

Course of Fire

The course of fire stipulated by the WA Police Service is as follows:

  • Discharging of firearm at 2 metre, 4 metre, 6 metre and 8 metre distances of the target.
  • Students will fire a minimum of 200 rounds plus, of factory ammunition.

Firearms system used in training

  • Glock Gen 4 (40 calibre) Self-loading Pistol
  • Smith and Wesson (.357/.38 calibre) Revolver

Training and assessment will include things like

  • comprehensive knowledge of the use of force;
  • legal implications of using a firearm;
  • demonstrating skills associated with VIP protection;
  • cash-in-transit emergency response situations,;
  • demonstrating skills when using a firearm including, but not limited to, firearm safety, practice dry shoots, live fire range shoot, stripping, cleaning and maintenance of firearm.

3 DAY FIREARMS TRAINING:

Day 1-2: 58 Newcastle Street, Perth, 6000

Day 3: Full range day, Canning Club, Acourt Road, Canning Vale– live assessment shoot
